Johan Norell,
spare parts salesperson

Describe Koppom Maskin as a workplace for someone who doesn’t know us - what's it like to work here?

It’s a flexible workplace. You work independently, but there’s always help available when needed. A lot of freedom with responsibility. We work from 7 to 4, which is really valuable to me since it works well when you have kids and a partner working shifts. I also think there’s been a big improvement in the work atmosphere since we moved into our new premises. Everything is new and fresh, and it’s easier to keep things organized.

How long have you worked here, what did you do before, and how much did you know about forestry machines beforehand?

I’ve worked here for about two years. Before that, I worked as an excavator operator for six years and as a timber truck driver for ten years. So, I had some insight into the industry and knowledge of hydraulics, but I’ve really had to dive into understanding how forestry machines work. I’ve always been interested in machines, and I think that’s been a big advantage – but if you’re motivated, you can definitely learn it anyway.

Who do you think should apply for a job with us, in general?

People who want to help customers. You don’t need to have operated a forestry machine, but you do need to understand what production downtime can mean.

People with a certain interest in machines who also want to learn more about how things work. If there’s an interest, you will learn. You need to have initiative and be willing to ask questions and be receptive – to learn from your knowledgeable colleagues.

And who should apply for a job as a spare parts salesperson here? What is required for that job?

You need to be able to connect with people and have an easy time talking to others. Personally, I’m not a mechanic, but it’s definitely not a disadvantage if you know a bit about working with machines. You can’t be afraid to make mistakes, because everyone does. It’s of course an advantage if you’ve worked as a salesperson before.

As a salesperson, it’s important to understand Swedish, Norwegian, and English, or another language, since you need to communicate with customers. A lot of communication happens in English, so you need to have an understanding of the language, but you don’t need to be fluent.
